Stalin addressed a massive public gathering in Chennai on September 9, 2017, registering unequivocal condemnation against the Union and state governments over the death of medical aspirant S. Anitha. Stalin asserted that Anitha had secured exemplary marks in her state board examinations but was cruelly denied a medical seat due to the arbitrary imposition of NEET. He held the ruling AIADMK establishment directly culpable for deceiving Tamil students with hollow assurances of securing an exemption ordinance while surrendering state rights in New Delhi.
Stalin emphasized that the gathering marked a critical juncture in the struggle to protect social justice and educational democracy. Tamil Nadu had eliminated entrance tests a decade earlier under Kalaignar Karunanidhi to ensure that poverty and rural geography did not disqualify meritorious youth from entering the medical profession. Centralized exams favored affluent coaching-class candidates, deliberately shutting government school students out of higher education.
The DMK leader vowed that the opposition coalition would relentlessly agitate across every democratic forum until total exemption from NEET was secured. He declared that Anitha sacrifice would forever fuel the crusade for regional educational self-determination.
