DMK working president M.K. Stalin questioned the Union and state governments on September 9, 2017, demanding accountability for their callous betrayal of Tamil Nadu medical aspirants. Stalin pointed out that central ministers and state emissaries repeatedly promised that Tamil Nadu would receive a one-year statutory exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test through a special executive ordinance. However, the authorities abruptly performed a complete somersault before the Supreme Court at the eleventh hour, shattering the aspirations of thousands of hardworking students.
Stalin criticized the ruling establishment for playing cruel political games with the lives and careers of rural learners. By holding out misleading assurances for months, the government prevented students from making timely alternate career arrangements or adequately preparing for an unfamiliar syllabus. This gross administrative deception culminated in deep emotional trauma across student households and directly precipitated the heartbreaking suicide of Dalit student S. Anitha.
The DMK leader demanded that the central government explain its sudden reversal and immediately restore equitable admissions based on higher secondary examination marks. He vowed that Tamil Nadu would never forgive this deliberate deception.
