DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited Tiruchirappalli on September 9, 2017, to meet college students observing an indefinite hunger strike demanding justice for medical aspirant S. Anitha. Stalin personally interacted with the fasting students, commended their moral courage, and expressed solidarity with their righteous anger against the imposition of NEET. Expressing deep concern for their physical health and well-being, Stalin appealed to the youth to end their fast, formally offering them lime juice to conclude the protest.
Stalin assured the assembled students that the entire Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leadership and opposition alliance stood shoulder to shoulder with them in their crusade for educational equality. He highlighted that while student agitation had effectively awakened the national conscience, young learners needed to preserve their strength and health to sustain a long-term democratic movement. The sacrifice of Anitha had exposed institutional injustice, and her legacy required constructive collective mobilization rather than self-harm.
The DMK leader pledged that the party would lead democratic protests across legal, legislative, and grassroots avenues until the central government granted total exemption from NEET. He reiterated that protecting students''' lives remained the movement'''s foremost moral imperative.
