DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an impassioned appeal to party cadres and civil society on September 9, 2017, urging massive participation in statewide peaceful demonstrations scheduled for September 13. Stalin stated that the joint agitation, organized in collaboration with all opposition parties, represented an urgent historic battle to defend social justice and educational rights in Tamil Nadu. The protest gathered widespread momentum following the tragic demise of medical aspirant S. Anitha, whose death exposed the exclusionary nature of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.
Stalin emphasized that the unified agitation aimed to send an undeniable democratic message to both the Union government and the compliant state administration. Tamil Nadu's hard-won reservation policies and rural medical healthcare infrastructure were being systematically dismantled by an elitist entrance examination based on an alien syllabus. Decades of progressive legislative reforms that democratized professional education for first-generation rural learners were under acute threat.
The DMK leader instructed party functionaries to ensure peaceful, disciplined, and resolute mobilization across all district headquarters. He asserted that the struggle for NEET exemption remained a non-negotiable crusade to safeguard students' futures.
