DMK working president M.K. Stalin registered sharp condemnation on September 11, 2017, over the ruling AIADMK administration's overt efforts to install BJP national secretary H. Raja as president of the Tamil Nadu Bharat Scouts and Guides. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan for actively facilitating the capture of a prestigious youth service organization by a partisan political figure. He observed that utilizing state machinery to influence an election in voluntary school organizations compromised institutional integrity.
Stalin pointed out that the Scouts and Guides movement had traditionally been helmed by seasoned educators, civil servants, and eminent social workers committed to student character building. Surrendering this non-partisan body to polarizing political figures threatened to inject ideological factionalism into school campuses across the state. The administration's compliance reflected complete political subservience to the central ruling party at the expense of Tamil Nadu's educational autonomy.
The DMK leader demanded that the state education department maintain absolute neutrality and uphold democratic norms. He affirmed that public education bodies must remain dedicated solely to student welfare and inclusive growth.
