DMK working president M.K. Stalin voiced deep anguish on September 13, 2017, over the rampant commercialization of medical education following the imposition of NEET. Stalin observed that central and state governments appeared to have entered an unspoken tacit pact to foster private coaching monopolies that extracted lakhs of rupees from vulnerable medical aspirants. While affluent families could afford exorbitant coaching fees ranging from two to five lakh rupees annually, poor, rural, and government school students were systematically shut out of medical careers.
Stalin highlighted that NEET dismantled the level playing field previously established through state board school examinations. Instead of evaluating twelve years of dedicated secondary schooling, medical admissions were monopolized by commercial test-preparation factories operating in major cities. This commercial racket destroyed the legitimate aspirations of brilliant first-generation learners and rural students whose parents worked as daily wage earners or small farmers. The state's failure to resist this elitist filtration represented an educational catastrophe.
The DMK leader affirmed that medical education must remain an accessible public right rather than a commercial commodity for private coaching enterprises. He reiterated DMK's demand for complete exemption.
