DMK working president M.K. Stalin called upon DMK President Muthamizharignar Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence on September 17, 2017, to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Dravidian patriarch Thanthai Periyar E.V. Ramasamy. Stalin paid traditional floral respects, bowed before the veteran leader, and received warm greetings and guidance. The momentous occasion symbolized the continuous generational commitment of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to the core values of rationalism, caste eradication, self-respect, and social justice.
Stalin recalled that Kalaignar Karunanidhi had dedicated more than seven decades of his public life to translating Periyar's radical social philosophy into statutory government policy. Under Kalaignar's stewardship, landmark welfare enactments including equal property rights for women, free electricity for farmers, and sixty-nine percent reservation for marginalized communities were successfully institutionalized in Tamil Nadu. Receiving Kalaignar's blessings on Periyar's Jayanti reinforced the party's ideological resolve against regressive orthodox resurgence.
The DMK leader emphasized that the Dravidian movement remained an unstoppable progressive force committed to rational thought and social dignity. He reaffirmed his dedicated resolve to carry forward the emancipatory ideals championed by Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar to build an inclusive and egalitarian society.
