DMK working president M.K. Stalin asserted on September 24, 2017, that only an exhaustive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation could uncover the truth behind explosive confessions made by state cabinet ministers. Senior minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan publicly admitted during a public rally that ministers had repeatedly lied to the public and press regarding former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's health status, confessing that none of them were permitted to visit her hospital room. Stalin stated that this shocking admission compromised governmental truthfulness.
Stalin observed that the admission confirmed the deep apprehensions consistently raised by the DMK and concerned citizens regarding opaque operations inside the hospital. If state ministers deliberately misled the Governor, the judiciary, and the public for months, serious questions of criminal conspiracy and administrative subversion arose. A state-appointed commission lacking independent investigative powers could never interrogate powerful political figures or uncover the true nature of decision-making during that prolonged interregnum.
The DMK leader demanded that the Union government and the Madras High Court immediately direct the CBI to register a formal case and initiate interrogation. He affirmed that the people deserved total transparency.
