DMK working president M.K. Stalin reiterated his firm demand on September 25, 2017, for an impartial Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the hospitalization and death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Stalin asserted that the CBI was the only statutory investigative body equipped with necessary inter-state and international jurisdictional powers to uncover the truth. Because crucial medical consultations, specialist visits, and administrative decisions crossed state boundaries and involved foreign medical institutions, a state-level inquiry remained fundamentally inadequate.

Stalin observed that conflicting statements issued by senior ruling cabinet ministers regarding Jayalalithaa's medical treatment had deepened public suspicion. Ministers who previously claimed she was eating food later confessed publicly that they had lied to protect factional political secrets. This startling admission of deliberate deception demonstrated that only a premier central investigative agency, operating free from local political interference, could uncover the complete chain of events.

The DMK leader called upon the Union government and judicial authorities to order a thorough CBI investigation without further political obstruction. He affirmed that the people of Tamil Nadu had an absolute democratic right to transparent truth regarding the demise of their elected head of state.
