DMK working president M.K. Stalin conducted an extensive personal inspection of premier healthcare institutions in Chennai on September 28, 2017, visiting government Stanley Medical College Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Moving through crowded fever inpatient wards, Stalin inquired after the well-being of dengue-afflicted patients and listened to grievances shared by distressed families. He reviewed diagnostic capabilities, testing turnaround speeds for blood platelets, and availability of essential supportive medicines with attending resident physicians.
Stalin observed that the influx of fever cases completely overwhelmed existing institutional capacities, with multiple patients crammed onto single stretchers. He praised the relentless dedication of government doctors and nursing staff who worked under stressful conditions, noting that institutional shortcomings stemmed from governmental budgetary neglect. The administration's failure to expand clinical staffing and open special transit wards contributed to severe overcrowding across premier referral hospitals.
The DMK leader urged the state administration to immediately establish decentralized fever treatment camps in outlying suburbs to ease the tremendous pressure on central metropolitan hospitals. He pledged continuous DMK voluntary support to assist affected families and fever patients throughout this public health emergency.
