DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an urgent appeal to the health administration on September 28, 2017, demanding immediate rectification of acute deficiencies in government hospitals. Inspecting fever wards and interacting directly with admitted patients and their families, Stalin discovered appalling conditions, including a severe shortage of hospital beds, lack of clean potable drinking water, and insufficient intravenous fluid supplies. Desperate patients, including young children suffering from high fever, were forced to share single narrow cots or sleep on corridor floors.

Stalin criticized the state health department for failing to anticipate bed requirements during an unprecedented dengue outbreak. He pointed out that while government spokespersons made tall administrative claims in press statements, tertiary referral hospitals lacked basic clinical amenities and sanitary drinking water. Impoverished families coming from distant rural districts struggled without proper sanitation, mosquito nettings, or timely diagnostic testing services.

The DMK leader demanded emergency budget allocations to erect temporary inpatient medical tents, procure additional hospital beds, and install reverse osmosis drinking water dispensers. He reiterated that ensuring compassionate, dignifying clinical care for vulnerable citizens remained an urgent governmental responsibility.
