Congrats @CMOKerala Reservation for the Caste-less is a Landmark decision. Victory for SocialJustice & SelfRespectMarriage principles of DMK
DMK working president M.K. Stalin warmly congratulated Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on October 19, 2017, for enacting a groundbreaking policy granting reservation to caste-less individuals. Hailing the progressive administrative measure as a landmark triumph for egalitarian principles, Stalin stated that it advanced the self-respect ideals long championed by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and the Dravidian movement. The Kerala cabinet decided to extend educational and employment reservations to children born of inter-caste marriages who declared themselves without caste affiliations.
Stalin emphasized that dismantling institutional caste hierarchies required innovative, affirmative public policy interventions. By formally recognizing and rewarding citizens who rejected ancestral caste markers, the Kerala administration demonstrated visionary leadership in constitutional social justice. This decisive reform provided institutional encouragement for inter-caste unions, helping erode deep-seated social divisions and prejudices that historically impeded genuine societal integration across southern India.
The DMK leader noted that promoting inter-caste marriages and abolishing discriminatory rituals formed the foundational core of the Self-Respect Movement founded in Tamil Nadu. He commended Kerala for transforming radical reformist ideology into tangible state policy, urging other regional administrations to emulate this historic model.
