DMK working president M.K. Stalin voiced grave concern on October 23, 2017, over the alarming deterioration of law and order across Tamil Nadu. Stalin asserted that administrative paralysis within the ruling dispensation had compromised public safety and emboldened anti-social elements. He pointed out that ordinary citizens, small traders, and vulnerable laborers faced increasing intimidation while local police stations failed to register complaints or initiate timely investigations against influential offenders.

Stalin observed that when political leadership preoccupied itself with retaining legislative numbers through illicit inducements, administrative discipline throughout the bureaucratic and policing hierarchies collapsed. Unchecked extortion rackets, illegal usury networks, and violent crimes operated brazenly without fear of statutory retribution. The police department, historically recognized for investigative competence, found its operational autonomy severely undermined by political interference from ruling party functionaries.

The DMK leader demanded immediate, impartial disciplinary and criminal action against all perpetrators threatening public peace. He insisted that senior police officers enforce statutory accountability without yielding to political pressure. Stalin affirmed that restoring professional policing and ensuring safety for all citizens remained vital to reviving public trust in democratic institutions.
