DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an urgent directive on October 25, 2017, instructing all party legislators and cadres to remain on maximum alert ahead of the northeast monsoon. Anticipating potential waterlogging and localized flood emergencies, Stalin urged party representatives across all districts to mobilize dedicated relief teams. He emphasized that elected representatives must stand by affected citizens, coordinate rapid rescue operations, and distribute essential sustenance supplies to vulnerable families residing in low-lying localities.

Stalin stressed that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres possessed a long-standing tradition of grassroots civic service during natural calamities. Given the evident administrative sluggishness and lack of municipal preparation across urban local bodies, grassroots political intervention was critical to minimize civilian suffering. He asked party workers to cooperate closely with resident welfare associations, identify inundated streets, and operate water suction pumps wherever required.

The DMK leader instructed district units to establish emergency helpline desks, arrange food packets, and supply safe drinking water to displaced residents.
