DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the ostentatious banner culture of the ruling AIADMK on October 27, 2017, highlighting deep citizen discontent across Tamil Nadu. Addressing public gatherings, Stalin pointed out that while ordinary citizens struggled with acute price inflation, agricultural distress, and unaddressed civic woes, ruling faction leaders plastered public roads with massive hoardings and towering cut-outs. He noted that commuters and daily wage workers viewed this wasteful self-aggrandizement with absolute revulsion and dismay.
Stalin emphasized that the ruling establishment remained completely disconnected from ordinary people's hardships. Instead of allocating public funds to clear clogged canals, repair dilapidated roadways, or provide essential municipal relief, state ministers prioritized ceremonial spectacles and sycophantic display. These illegal hoardings not only disrupted vehicular traffic and endangered pedestrian safety but also mocked the deprivation experienced by impoverished families across urban and rural settlements.
The DMK leader urged the state administration to abandon hollow publicity and address urgent governance failures immediately. He affirmed that true public leadership derived respect from tangible welfare delivery, not superficial street displays. Stalin declared that citizens would soon hold the regime accountable for its neglect.
