DMK working president M.K. Stalin conducted an extensive on-ground inspection of vulnerable residential zones in the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar assembly constituency on October 27, 2017. Evaluating monsoon preparedness alongside civic volunteers and local residents, Stalin observed severe waterlogging risks due to clogged stormwater drains and neglected municipal sanitation works. He issued a firm ultimatum giving the state administration two days to deploy municipal machinery and clean drainage corridors across north Chennai.
Stalin warned that if the authorities failed to initiate comprehensive desilting and flood prevention works immediately, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres would directly enter the field to carry out desilting operations and assist stranded communities. He noted that north Chennai localities consistently suffered disproportionate flood devastation because consecutive municipal budgets bypassed basic urban infrastructure in working-class neighborhoods.
The DMK leader listened attentively to residents who recounted persistent water stagnation during previous monsoon seasons. He directed local party organizers to maintain round-the-clock emergency support teams with water pumps, clearing gear, and medical supplies. Stalin reaffirmed that ensuring public safety and sanitation remained the highest democratic priority ahead of heavy torrential rains.
