DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced a transformative policy commitment on November 4, 2017, assuring expatriate Tamil communities in the United Arab Emirates and across the globe of dedicated institutional support. Stalin pledged that immediately upon assuming governmental power in Tamil Nadu, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will formally establish a Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board. Crucially, he affirmed that an official representative from the UAE diaspora would be appointed to serve directly on the board.
Stalin recognized the monumental socio-economic contributions of millions of expatriate Tamils whose hard-earned remittances fuel rural development, educational advancement, and household prosperity across Tamil Nadu. Despite working under demanding conditions abroad, diaspora workers frequently face acute administrative hurdles, ranging from consular challenges and contract disputes to inadequate reintegration schemes upon returning home. Stalin emphasized that an elected government must actively safeguard the welfare of its global citizens.
The DMK leader envisioned the proposed welfare board as a comprehensive institutional bridge offering legal aid, emergency repatriation assistance, pension security, and specialized investment counseling. He praised the vibrant cultural pride maintained by diaspora associations abroad. Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravidian movement regards Tamils worldwide as an inseparable family deserving enduring institutional care and governmental solidarity.
