DMK working president M.K. Stalin spent the entirety of November 7, 2017, on the ground inspecting waterlogged residential colonies and suburban neighborhoods across Chennai and adjoining Kanchipuram districts. Navigating submerged roadways and muddy lanes, Stalin visited affected families whose homes were flooded with stormwater, listening attentively to their grievances. He offered words of solace and directed local DMK units to distribute dry ration packets, drinking water, and essential medicines to marooned citizens.
Stalin noted with grave concern that civic amenities had collapsed in low-lying suburban belts, where inadequate drainage infrastructure left stagnant water surrounding apartment complexes and independent homes for days. Residents voiced acute dismay over the non-appearance of local municipal officials and the utter absence of mechanized pumping equipment. Stalin coordinated with local party functionaries to set up community relief kitchens and ensure immediate rescue assistance for stranded elders and children.
The DMK leader criticized the state government for confining its disaster response to press briefings rather than providing visible administrative support in submerged residential areas. He insisted that the district administration deploy medical teams to prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will remain on the frontlines to serve affected citizens.
