DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a strong indictment of the AIADMK administration on November 7, 2017, blaming the Chief Minister's complete administrative inertia for recurring urban flood misery. Stalin pointed out that despite the catastrophic deluge of December 2015, which claimed hundreds of lives and devastated infrastructure across Chennai and neighbouring districts, the state government had failed to execute basic disaster preparedness and drainage overhaul projects over the subsequent two years.
Stalin emphasized that the administration had neglected to implement the recommendations of high-level expert committees regarding the widening of surplus canals, desilting of the Adyar and Cooum rivers, and construction of missing storm drain links. When moderate monsoon rains arrived in November 2017, residential colonies in Velachery, Mudichur, and Tambaram were once again inundated, plunging vulnerable citizens into traumatic hardship and loss of property.
The DMK leader asserted that this recurring distress was not merely a natural disaster, but the direct consequence of systemic administrative corruption and governmental apathy. He demanded the immediate release of funds for emergency desilting and round-the-clock water pumping operations. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly hold the executive accountable for endangering public safety through persistent developmental neglect.
