Led the multi-party Black Day demonstration at Madurai today. We condemned the BJP-led central govt for the disastrous demonetisation program which was an assault on both the economy and on democratic traditions. #BjpMoneyLaunderingDay https://t.co/hE1XdL3yB7

DMK working president M.K. Stalin led a massive joint opposition demonstration in Madurai on November 8, 2017, observing a nationwide Black Day to protest the anniversary of demonetisation. Addressing tens of thousands of political activists from allied secular parties who wore black shirts and waved protest flags, Stalin delivered a blistering critique of the BJP-led central government. He characterized the sudden invalidation of eighty-six percent of currency notes as an authoritarian assault on both national economic vitality and democratic consensus.
Stalin stated that the protest in the historic temple city resonated with the collective agony of crores of innocent citizens who were forced into endless bank queues, resulting in over a hundred tragic deaths nationwide. He pointed out that while affluent hoarders found dubious means to launder unaccounted funds, unorganized workers, weavers, and small traders suffered devastating capital losses from which they had yet to recover.
The DMK leader praised the extraordinary unity exhibited by opposition parties in resisting centralized economic misgovernance. He declared that the Madurai demonstration sounded the clarion call for democratic forces across India to unite against unilateralism. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently champion economic democracy and resist authoritarian economic decisions.
