DMK working president M.K. Stalin aimed sharp satirical criticism at the AIADMK administration on November 10, 2017, targeting ridiculous claims made by the Municipal Administration Minister. While heavy monsoon rains inundated residential localities, arterial junctions, and subways across Chennai, the minister publicly boasted that the metropolis was maintained to standards surpassing London and major American cities. Stalin remarked wryly that it was fortunate international leaders could not comprehend such absurd statements.
Stalin observed that empty political grandstanding could not conceal the harsh reality confronting Chennai's taxpaying residents, who were forced to wade through knee-deep sewage-mixed rainwater. Despite spending thousands of crores on paper for smart city projects and stormwater drains, municipal corridors remained heavily waterlogged after brief spells of rainfall. Silt-choked canals, incomplete culverts, and non-functional pumps demonstrated total administrative failure.
The DMK leader called upon the municipal administration to abandon laughable propaganda and concentrate on urgent field operations. He demanded immediate de-watering of submerged neighborhoods, deployment of high-capacity pumps, and continuous health camps to prevent monsoon water-borne epidemics. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently hold urban civic authorities accountable for unfulfilled infrastructure pledges.
