DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a sharp condemnation on November 11, 2017, exposing the perilous financial condition of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation under the AIADMK regime. Stalin revealed that after recklessly depleting state budgetary finances, the administration had resorted to mortgaging vital bus depots, maintenance workshops, and prime transport lands to secure emergency commercial loans. He described this liquidation of public assets as an unpardonable betrayal of Tamil Nadu's developmental interests.
Stalin pointed out that public transport corporations, which historically formed the accessible backbone of mobility for millions of students, rural laborers, and office workers, were being systematically crippled. The government failed to disburse retired transport workers' statutory provident funds and retirement gratuities, while diverting employee contributions to plug operational deficits. Fleet maintenance had completely deteriorated, endangering passenger safety on daily routes.
The DMK leader asserted that the AIADMK regime was acting as an obstructive stumbling block to Tamil Nadu's socio-economic progress. He demanded an immediate white paper detailing TNSTC's financial liabilities, debt structure, and mortgaged properties. Stalin assured transport workers and the traveling public that the DMK will fiercely oppose the plunder of public transport infrastructure.
