Chandrababu Naidu for introducing a landmark welfare pension scheme for transgender individuals. Commending the initiative on behalf of DMK President M. Stalin recalled with immense pride that Tamil Nadu, under the visionary leadership of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, pioneered institutional recognition for the transgender community by introducing the dignified, respectful Tamil terminology Thirunangai into official state lexicons. The DMK government had established India's first Transgender Welfare Board in 2008, creating identity cards, free housing, educational aid, and dedicated self-employment grants. Those pioneering social justice interventions established a transformative national benchmark for gender equality and human dignity.
The DMK leader urged the current Tamil Nadu government to take progressive inspiration from neighboring states and upgrade its own welfare schemes. He stressed that social justice requires constant renewal, expanded livelihood opportunities, healthcare protections, and anti-discrimination frameworks. Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravidian movement remains unyieldingly committed to defending marginalized communities.
