Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin led an extensive election campaign across the streets of Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar on December 17, 2017, seeking public support for DMK candidate N. Maruthu Ganesh under the historic Rising Sun symbol. Stalin observed that while ruling party factions calculated cynically that they could purchase democratic votes by distributing six thousand rupees per family, the spontaneous warmth and enthusiasm of local citizens told an entirely different story on the ground.

Stalin condemned the blatant commodification of the electoral process by moneyed political factions, calling it an insult to the self-respect of north Chennai's working-class residents. He reminded the public that temporary cash handouts could never compensate for years of civic neglect, uncollected garbage, contaminated water pipelines, and youth unemployment. He emphasized that genuine democratic representation requires an honest, accessible representative who resides within the constituency.

The DMK leader expressed gratitude to thousands of women, youth, and elders who lined the streets to express their solidarity with the DMK alliance. He appealed to voters to protect democratic dignity by rejecting corrupt inducements. Stalin asserted that the Rising Sun symbol represented enduring social justice, integrity, and sustainable neighborhood development.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
