Congratulations to those who have won Assembly elections in Gujarat and HP. People are the masters in a democracy & their verdict has to be accepted. Election results demand unity among democratic, progressive & secular forces to protect the pluralism of India. #TwoStateElection
DMK working president M.K. Stalin offered his formal congratulations on December 18, 2017, to the winning candidates following the declaration of assembly election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Stalin affirmed that in a constitutional democracy, the electorate remains the ultimate sovereign master, and every political party must accept the people's verdict with grace and humility. At the same time, he observed that the close electoral contests carried critical lessons for the future trajectory of Indian politics.
Stalin stressed that the contemporary political landscape underscored an imperative requirement for close cohesion among all democratic, progressive, and secular forces across the country. He noted that safeguarding India's foundational pluralism, federal balance, and social diversity required collective vigilance against centralizing and divisive political tendencies. Regional aspirations and democratic norms, he argued, can only be defended when like-minded political movements coordinate strategically on national platforms.
The DMK leader reiterated his party's unwavering dedication to federalism, social justice, and constitutional protections. He called upon opposition leadership throughout the nation to build cohesive alliances grounded in common public welfare and democratic values. Stalin emphasized that sustained cooperation among secular parties remains essential for protecting national unity.
