DMK working president M.K. Stalin paid reverent homage to rationalist icon Thanthai Periyar E.V. Ramasamy on his 44th memorial anniversary on December 24, 2017. Commemorating the father of the Self-Respect Movement, Stalin administered an ideological vow to party cadres to wage an uncompromising struggle for social justice, human dignity, and rationalist ideals. He declared that the DMK will decisively surmount all political vendettas, deceitful conspiracies, and temporary setbacks by following the steadfast leadership path charted by DMK President Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi.
Stalin observed that Periyar's radical crusade dismantled entrenched caste hierarchies and laid the foundation for backward class empowerment and gender equality in Tamil Nadu. In the contemporary political arena, where reactionary forces seek to restore retrograde social structures and undermine reservations, Periyar's egalitarian philosophy remains an essential guiding beacon. The DMK, he noted, draws its eternal strength and social purpose from the rationalist awakening initiated by Periyar.
The DMK leader exhorted cadres to shine like the radiant sun, fearlessly championing self-respect and social reform across every village. Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian movement will persistently protect Periyar's legacy from regressive political onslaughts. He pledged unbroken fidelity to equality and social liberation.
