#RKNagarElectionResult
DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a forthright assessment on December 24, 2017, following the declaration of results for the high-profile Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (R.K. Nagar) assembly by-election in Chennai. Stalin asserted that the electoral outcome was not a defeat for the DMK, but a monumental failure of the Election Commission of India, which completely failed to curb unprecedented cash distribution, voter bribery, and corrupt electoral malpractices orchestrated by rival contenders.
Stalin urged political analysts, democratic institutions, and citizens to reflect deeply on whether lavishly pumping unaccounted money into constituencies helps preserve genuine popular democracy. He pointed out that despite repeated, evidence-backed complaints submitted by the DMK regarding systematic cash distribution, regulatory watchdogs looked the other way, rendering free and fair polling impossible. Stalin emphasized that winning an election through mercenary inducements erodes democratic integrity and public morality.
The DMK leader thanked party cadres and alliance partners who fought ethically and tirelessly on principled political platforms without compromising democratic values. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently struggle against money power in elections and continue championing honest, accountable representative democracy. He reiterated unwavering faith in the electorate.
