Union Minister #AnanthKumarHegde's hate speech against secularism is a blatant violation of the oath he had taken under the Constitution of India. Instead of distancing from his speech, Hon'ble Prime Minister should dismiss him from the Ministry. #HegdeInsultsAmbedkar
DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a blistering condemnation on December 27, 2017, targeting Union Minister of State Ananth Kumar Hegde for his derogatory public remarks attacking secularism and the Constitution framed under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Stalin stated that Hegde's brazen comments—claiming that the ruling party was in power to alter the Constitution and deriding secular citizens—constituted a direct and intolerable violation of the solemn constitutional oath of office taken by a Union Minister.
Stalin asserted that merely having the ruling party or parliamentary floor leaders offer partial disclaimers or evasive distance from such remarks is thoroughly insufficient. He demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonstrate unyielding loyalty to the Constitution by immediately dismissing Hegde from the Union Council of Ministers. Harboring ministers who openly disrespect constitutional values, he noted, strikes at the secular bedrock and social fabric of the republic.
The DMK leader emphasized that secularism and democratic equality are non-negotiable foundations of the Indian Union. He warned that attempts to dismantle constitutional safeguards for minorities and depressed classes would be resisted vigorously. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will always stand as a staunch defender of Ambedkar's constitutional legacy.
