DMK working president M.K. Stalin extended warm New Year greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu and the global Tamil community on December 31, 2017. Ushering in the year 2018, Stalin called upon all progressive, secular, and democratic forces to come together to dispel prevailing political darkness and cultivate the light of peace, prosperity, and equitable growth across every household, village, and town.

Stalin reflected on the severe administrative, economic, and social challenges confronting Tamil Nadu under the incumbent dispensation, noting that misgovernance and subservience had crippled public welfare. He emphasized that the arrival of the New Year should serve as an inspiring renewal of resolve to combat anti-democratic policies, defend regional autonomy, and restore principled, people-centric leadership. Collective solidarity, he observed, is the most powerful antidote to authoritarianism and neglect.
