DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a statement on January 5, 2018, urging the AIADMK administration to shed its callous indifference and initiate urgent measures to resolve the statewide transport strike. Stalin expressed deep concern that public bus operations had ground to a halt across Tamil Nadu, leaving millions of commuters stranded at bus terminals without reliable transportation. He warned that governmental apathy would worsen public inconvenience and escalate industrial unrest.
Stalin pointed out that transport employees were pushed to initiate strike action only after months of fruitless appeals for their basic statutory entitlements. He highlighted that the state government had illegally diverted billions of rupees from employee provident funds and gratuities to meet operational deficits, leaving retiring staff without pensions. He stated that expecting workers to operate without their rightful wages and benefits is an injustice that no welfare state should tolerate.
The DMK leader demanded that the state government resume constructive negotiations with union representatives immediately to reach a fair, amicable settlement. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will support legitimate worker demands while pressing the executive to restore normal transit services promptly. He urged urgent action for common citizens.
