DMK working president M.K. Stalin personally contacted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami via telephone on January 6, 2018, urging swift executive intervention to end the statewide transport strike. Stalin highlighted that common citizens, students, rural laborers, and office commuters were enduring severe hardship for two consecutive days due to the near-total suspension of state bus services. He stressed that administrative paralysis had disrupted public mobility and crippled everyday economic life across all districts.
During the conversation, Stalin urged the Chief Minister to address the legitimate demands of transport workers, including settling unpaid retirement benefits, clearing provident fund dues, and implementing equitable wage revisions. He pointed out that transport employees were forced into strike action solely due to the government's protracted neglect and refusal to honor statutory financial commitments. Stalin argued that prolonged government stubbornness only exacerbated commuter suffering.
The DMK leader emphasized that resolving the deadlock required decisive leadership from the head of the government rather than bureaucratic delay. He requested the administration to initiate immediate negotiations with transport union representatives. Stalin affirmed that the DMK remains committed to resolving public distress and defending worker rights. He urged rapid restoration of bus transport.
