DMK working president M.K. Stalin presided over an important meeting of party district secretaries in Chennai on January 7, 2018, where eleven key resolutions were unanimously adopted. The foremost among these decisions was the official announcement to convene a grand Erode Zonal Conference on March 24 and 25, 2018. Stalin highlighted that the massive regional conference would serve as a major ideological platform to champion the core tenets of the Dravidian movement, specifically state autonomy, social justice, and communal harmony.
Stalin observed that constitutional federalism and secular coexistence face acute threats from right-wing centralizing policies, making regional political mobilization essential. By holding the conference in historic Erode, the birthplace of Thanthai Periyar, the DMK sought to reignite rationalist political consciousness and mobilize party cadres for upcoming mass democratic struggles. The meeting also addressed urgent public grievances, including transport worker strikes and agrarian crises.
The DMK leader called upon district secretaries and party functionaries across western Tamil Nadu to collaborate closely to make the Erode conference a historic triumph. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will systematically build political momentum to defend constitutional values and restore progressive governance. He expressed strong confidence in cadre enthusiasm.
