DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern on January 13, 2018, regarding the unprecedented public statement made by four senior judges of the Supreme Court of India. Highlighting the extraordinary nature of the judicial press conference, Stalin noted that public expressions of dissent by the senior-most jurists regarding case allocation and court administration raise alarming questions about the autonomy, internal independence, and institutional transparency of the nation's highest judicial authority.

Stalin emphasized that the Supreme Court serves as the ultimate custodian of constitutional democracy and citizen liberties. Any perception of executive interference or administrative opacity at the apex court strikes at the very root of judicial credibility and public confidence. He noted that democracy cannot survive if the independence of the judiciary is compromised or perceived to be subservient to external pressures.
