DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish on January 17, 2018, over the tragic death of postgraduate medical student Sarath Prabhu from Tiruppur, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances in New Delhi. Stalin contacted the grieving parents over the telephone to offer his heartfelt condolences and solidarity during their immense bereavement. He stated that the recurring mysterious deaths of Tamil Nadu students pursuing higher education in premier national institutions in northern states is deeply distressing.
Stalin criticized the central and state governments for their persistent silence and lethargy regarding past tragedies, recalling the unresolved mysterious death of medical student Saravanan in Delhi. He asserted that if the authorities had investigated previous cases thoroughly and instituted robust safeguards, such tragic losses could have been averted. The failure of administrative agencies to protect outstation students, he argued, reflects a disturbing lack of institutional accountability.
The DMK leader demanded a comprehensive, transparent police investigation into Sarath Prabhu's demise to uncover the truth and punish any wrongdoing. He urged the state government to establish a dedicated support cell in Delhi to assist Tamil Nadu students facing distress or discrimination. Stalin promised full legal support to the family.
