DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a stern reprimand on February 2, 2018, condemning party supporters who engaged in online abuse against a female television news anchor following a broadcast debate. Stalin stated unequivocally that the DMK is a movement founded on the non-negotiable principles of women's emancipation, gender dignity, and freedom of expression. He made it clear that harassing journalists or stifling divergent viewpoints completely contradicts the core rationalist ethos of the Dravidian movement.
Stalin cautioned cadres that personal attacks, misogynistic slurs, and social media intimidation bring disrepute to the organization and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He emphasized that democratic debates must be met with reasoned counterarguments, facts, and ideological clarity rather than online harassment. Healthy public discourse, he noted, relies on respecting media freedom and civil debate.
The DMK leader warned party members to immediately cease such hostile conduct, directing them to uphold exemplary discipline and decency across digital platforms. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will always stand firm in protecting journalistic independence, free speech, and the safety and respect of women in public life. He called for mutual respect in all political discussions.
