DMK working president M.K. Stalin led a massive silent peace procession in Chennai on February 3, 2018, marking the 49th death anniversary of Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai. Accompanied by thousands of party workers and senior leaders, Stalin marched to the Anna Memorial on Marina Beach, where he paid floral homage to the founder of the DMK. On this solemn occasion, Stalin administered a pledge to protect and advance Anna's core political ideals of state autonomy and linguistic self-determination.
Stalin observed that constitutional federalism and regional language entitlements face severe challenges from centralizing political forces. He emphasized that Anna envisioned an India where diverse states enjoy genuine legislative autonomy and cultural dignity, rather than functioning as administrative subordinates to New Delhi. The DMK, he noted, draws perpetual inspiration from Anna's rationalist governance and inclusive democratic values.
The DMK leader called upon party cadres to redouble their ideological commitment and stand as an impenetrable shield against central encroachment on state rights. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently struggle through democratic channels to restore authentic federal governance across India. He reaffirmed Anna's vision of self-respect for every Tamil citizen.
