Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin convened and chaired a consultative meeting of all opposition party leaders at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on February 6, 2018. The meeting focused on formulating joint political strategies against the sharp bus fare hikes implemented by the ruling AIADMK government. Following deliberations among coalition leaders, the forum resolved to organize coordinated public protest demonstrations across all district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on February 13.

Stalin emphasized that the sudden fare revision had created severe economic distress for daily-wage laborers, rural workers, and students who rely on state transport corporations. He pointed out that rather than plugging administrative leaks and addressing operational graft, the government chose to extract revenues directly from impoverished citizens. The unanimous consensus among opposition leaders demonstrated broad political solidarity in defending commuter rights.

The DMK leader stated that the February 13 demonstrations would mobilize public sentiment peacefully and hold the executive accountable for anti-people policies. He called upon party cadres, trade unions, and civil society groups to participate actively. Stalin reiterated that democratic agitation will continue until the administration fully rolls back the bus fare increases.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
