DMK working president M.K. Stalin personally handed over a cheque for one crore rupees on February 7, 2018, to M. Arumugam, the coordinator fundraising in India to establish a Tamil Chair at Harvard University. The contribution fulfilled the financial commitment pledged on behalf of DMK President and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin underscored the DMK's historic commitment to advancing the classical standing, global recognition, and academic scholarship of the Tamil language worldwide.
Stalin highlighted that establishing a dedicated Tamil Chair at Harvard will provide an international scholarly platform for classical and modern Tamil literature, linguistic heritage, and Sangam history. He praised the global Tamil diaspora and cultural organizations whose dedicated crowdfunding efforts brought the ambitious educational project within reach. The DMK's contribution reflected its foundational mission of promoting Tamil self-respect, cultural pride, and linguistic identity on global stages.
The DMK leader expressed confidence that the academic chair will inspire deep research into Tamil antiquities, literature, and social history. He affirmed that the Dravidian movement will continue to support initiatives that elevate Tamil culture across premier international academic institutions.
