DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a severe indictment of the AIADMK administration on February 17, 2018, exposing massive corruption and procedural irregularities in the 300 crore rupee tender floated for procuring 2,000 new state transport buses. Stalin pointed out that after cruelly burdening poor commuters with an unjustified, steep bus fare hike, the state government displayed unpardonable callousness toward repeated passenger deaths caused by broken, dilapidated bus floors and neglected vehicle maintenance.
Stalin condemned the transport department for manipulating procurement criteria to favor specific contractors at inflated rates rather than securing quality, passenger-safe vehicles. He warned that the DMK will not remain silent while public money is looted under the guise of fleet modernization. Stalin issued a clear ultimatum, demanding an immediate independent judicial or anti-corruption inquiry into the tender process, warning that the DMK will file a public interest litigation in the Madras High Court if the government fails to act.
