DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the central leadership on February 27, 2018, expressing deep indignation over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's complete silence regarding the Cauvery dispute during his official visit to Tamil Nadu. Stalin simultaneously criticized Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's blatant statement refusing to provide a clear guarantee that the Cauvery Management Board would be established within the six-week timeframe decreed by the Supreme Court of India.
Stalin termed Gadkari's remarks an open affront to judicial authority and an unpardonable betrayal of Tamil Nadu's delta farmers. He pointed out that while the state was battling acute agrarian distress and water scarcity, senior central leaders displayed shocking disregard for constitutional directives and regional livelihoods. Stalin emphasized that the Prime Minister's refusal to even mention the issue while touring the state revealed complete apathy toward Tamil grievances.
The DMK leader called upon all democratic forces in Tamil Nadu to unite against central condescension. He demanded that the Union administration immediately commit to constituting the board as mandated. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will relentlessly escalate protests until full riparian justice is secured.
