DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin attended a high-level consultative meeting on the Cauvery dispute convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat on March 3, 2018. During the deliberations, Stalin forcefully urged the state government to immediately convene a special session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to pass a unanimous resolution applying decisive political pressure on the central government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board without delay.
Stalin emphasized that the Supreme Court's six-week deadline required proactive, continuous governmental pressure rather than casual administrative meetings. He argued that an emergency legislative resolution would present a united, resolute front representing the collective will of all political parties and farming communities across the state, leaving New Delhi with no pretext for postponement.
The DMK leader assured constructive opposition cooperation for all lawful actions aimed at defending Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements. He urged the state executive to act decisively before agricultural timelines expired. Stalin pledged that the DMK will stand at the vanguard of every struggle, ensuring that the livelihood of delta farmers is protected against central indifference.
