DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound outrage on March 3, 2018, condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's refusal to grant an official appointment to an all-party delegation and farmer representatives from Tamil Nadu to discuss the urgent Cauvery crisis. Stalin characterized the Prime Minister's dismissive stance as a calculated insult to seven crore Tamil citizens and a blatant violation of basic democratic norms that require national leaders to listen to aggrieved states.
Stalin asserted that if the Union government failed to immediately constitute the statutory Cauvery Management Board as ordered by the Supreme Court, all members of Parliament representing Tamil Nadu must resign their seats en masse to register powerful democratic resistance. He affirmed that the DMK would wholeheartedly back and participate in such decisive collective legislative action to defend the agrarian survival of the state.
The DMK leader warned that democratic patience across the delta was wearing thin amidst severe irrigation shortages and agricultural ruin. He demanded that state leaders demonstrate unyielding political resolve against central arrogance. Stalin declared that the DMK will lead uncompromising public mobilizations until the Cauvery board is fully operationalized.
