DMK working president M.K. Stalin participated in grand celebrations organized by the DMK Women's Wing on March 4, 2018, held in advance of International Women's Day. Addressing a massive gathering of women organizers, cadres, and grassroots leaders, Stalin remarked that the Dravidian movement possessed the historic moral right to celebrate women's emancipation ahead of the world, having pioneered systemic social reforms that liberated women from patriarchal subjugation and economic dependency across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin enumerated the landmark legislative milestones instituted during DMK governance, including the historic 1989 law granting daughters equal rights in ancestral property under Kalaignar Karunanidhi's leadership. He highlighted the creation of Self-Help Groups, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar marriage assistance scheme, dedicated financial support for pregnant mothers, and pioneering reservations for women in local governance and government recruitment.
The DMK leader praised party functionaries for their vibrant organizational grassroots work and relentless advocacy for social justice. He urged the cadre to continue mobilizing women across rural and urban communities. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will continually formulate progressive policies that guarantee women absolute dignity, financial autonomy, and equal political representation.
