DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and indignation on March 6, 2018, condemning an interview given by Union Water Resources Secretary U.P. Singh to The Times of India. In the interview, the senior bureaucrat claimed that the Supreme Court had granted discretion to either establish the Cauvery Management Board or pursue administrative review. Stalin denounced these claims as a deliberate, bad-faith misinterpretation designed to delay justice and betray the agrarian livelihoods of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin emphasized that the apex court's judicial decree was unambiguous, mandating the Union government to frame a comprehensive scheme and constitute the board within six weeks. Permitting bureaucrats to distort court mandates in the media exposed the central administration's cynical attempt to evade its constitutional obligations. He asserted that the BJP-led Centre must not allow administrative maneuvers to deprive Tamil Nadu of its legitimate water entitlements.
The DMK leader warned that farmers in the Cauvery delta would not tolerate further bureaucratic deception while standing on the brink of ruin. He demanded immediate governmental clarification affirming full board formation. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will fiercely oppose any central attempt to dilute the judicial ruling.
