DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a trenchant rebuke on March 7, 2018, against reactionary forces that arrogantly boasted of demolishing statues of Dravidian leader Thanthai Periyar. Stalin noted that after encountering widespread public indignation, cultural outrage, and unified defiance from Tamil society, the perpetrators were forced into fearful silence and political retreat. He warned that if any divisive elements harbored similar malicious intentions, the people of Tamil Nadu would deliver a historic lesson demonstrating their collective democratic strength.
Stalin emphasized that Thanthai Periyar personified the social self-respect, educational emancipation, and human dignity of oppressed communities across south India. Attempting to diminish Periyar's enduring stature through provocative threats merely exposed the moral bankruptcy of regressive ideologues who are incapable of engaging with rationalist, egalitarian philosophy on democratic merits.
The DMK leader reaffirmed that Tamil soil remains thoroughly fortified by Dravidian consciousness, scientific temper, and egalitarian principles. He called upon party cadres to stay vigilant and resist cultural intimidation everywhere. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will decisively confront reactionary hostility, safeguarding Periyar's revolutionary contributions to social progress, caste eradication, and self-respect forever.
