DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a firm caution to the Tamil Nadu administration on March 8, 2018, warning against agreeing to any makeshift interim arrangements regarding the Cauvery water dispute during consultations in New Delhi. Stalin declared that the state government must not accept temporary administrative mechanisms or watered-down supervisory panels without the explicit, unanimous concurrence of all political parties and recognized farmer associations throughout Tamil Nadu.
Stalin stressed that the Supreme Court's verdict clearly called for a definitive, statutory Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee with complete executive authority over reservoir releases. Settling for diluted intermediary committees would compromise the hard-won legal rights secured through decades of relentless litigation and peasant sacrifice. He reminded the ruling dispensation that its primary allegiance belongs to the farmers of Tamil Nadu, not central convenience.
The DMK leader demanded that the state delegation maintain an unyielding posture aligned with the decisions made at the recent all-party meeting. He affirmed that the DMK will fiercely oppose any underhand compromise. Stalin vowed to lead statewide resistance if regional water rights are sacrificed.
