DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin addressed an urgent official communication on March 10, 2018, to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, demanding the immediate convening of a special assembly session prior to the scheduled budget debates. Stalin urged the government to leverage the state legislature as a united platform to apply decisive political pressure on the Union government, which continued delaying the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.
Stalin highlighted that the Supreme Court's six-week deadline was rapidly elapsing while the central administration showed no tangible signs of establishing the statutory management authority. He stressed that a dedicated legislative resolution adopted unanimously would demonstrate the unbending will of Tamil Nadu's seven crore citizens. Stalin warned that passive governmental waiting would severely disadvantage the agrarian community as the farming season approached.
The DMK leader assured complete opposition support for aggressive measures to secure riparian rights. He insisted that the state administration demonstrate courage by confronting central apathy directly. Stalin pledged that the DMK will relentlessly mobilize legislative and civic avenues until Tamil Nadu's rightful Cauvery water entitlements are permanently protected.
