DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government on March 10, 2018, to take immediate, proactive measures to step up police security outside schools and colleges statewide to protect students, particularly young women, from harassment and criminal violence. At the same time, Stalin highlighted the urgent necessity of organizing dedicated grievance redressal camps for police personnel to curb the alarming rise in suicides among law enforcement ranks caused by extreme occupational stress, unmanageable working hours, and lack of mental health support.
Stalin emphasized that effective policing depends directly on the welfare and morale of personnel who maintain public peace under grueling conditions. Neglecting internal departmental welfare while failing to ensure visible campus safety reflects deep administrative shortcomings. He urged the home department to implement humane shift rotations, provide counseling services, and resolve pending staff grievances promptly.
The DMK leader noted that a well-supported, empathetic police force is essential to safeguard vulnerable citizens and prevent tragic campus crimes. Stalin called upon the state administration to adopt comprehensive security and welfare reforms, affirming the DMK's commitment to robust public safety and employee dignity.
