DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a stern warning on March 11, 2018, cautioning the central government against enforcing destructive hydrocarbon exploration projects across the fertile agricultural heartland of Tamil Nadu. Stalin condemned the Centre's aggressive push to license extractive exploration blocks, declaring that converting the historic Cauvery delta granary into an arid, polluted desert would provoke massive, sustained public resistance from farmers and citizens alike across every district.

Stalin pointed out that rural families were already reeling from chronic drought, depleted river flows, and administrative delays in constituting the Cauvery Management Board. Imposing hazardous industrial drilling over fragile groundwater aquifers and fertile farmlands constituted an unbearable betrayal of agrarian communities who feed the nation. He emphasized that agricultural security must never be compromised for corporate resource exploitation under any circumstances.

The DMK leader demanded that the Union ministry immediately withdraw all approvals for oil and gas projects within protected agricultural zones. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with delta farmers, warning that any unilateral move to endanger regional agriculture will trigger unyielding democratic protests across Tamil Nadu.
