DMK working president M.K. Stalin called upon the ruling AIADMK on March 16, 2018, to support the upcoming no-confidence motion in Parliament against the BJP-led central government. Stalin pointed out that as the third largest political party in the Lok Sabha, the AIADMK held substantial legislative leverage to hold New Delhi accountable for repeatedly betraying Tamil Nadu's vital interests, specifically regarding the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board and the disregard of state assembly resolutions seeking exemption from NEET.
Stalin emphasized that the central government had continuously ignored judicial verdicts on Cauvery water sharing while undermining provincial educational autonomy. He asserted that parliamentary accountability demanded firm action rather than passive political compliance. By voting against the Union ministry, Stalin argued, Tamil Nadu's parliamentary contingent could effectively assert the state's collective dignity and force the national administration to address longstanding regional grievances.
The DMK leader warned that failing to support the motion would demonstrate unpardonable subservience to central authorities at the direct expense of Tamil Nadu's farmers and students. He affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly pursue every democratic avenue to secure comprehensive regional justice.
